CANOE slalom competitor Ashleigh Logan will represent Australia at the junior world championships in Roudnice, the Czech Republic, in July.

The Liverpool girl has been selected in the Australian junior K1 class team.

The junior world titles are for competitors aged 19 and under.

``The team was announced last week and I am very happy to be representing Australia,'' Ashleigh said.

Ashleigh, 16, is a member of the Western Sydney Academy of Sport team which trains at Penrith's Whitewater Stadium.

``My mum drives me six times a week to Penrith for training,'' Ashleigh said.

``It can be very expensive for my mum with petrol costs.

``My mum [Anne] and I are now fund-raising to cover my expenses to compete in the Czech Republic.''

Ashleigh competed at the pre-world titles last July in the Czech Republic, finishing 11th in a field of 74 entrants.

The teenager, who wants to join the police force, qualified for the Australian junior team with two seconds and a third placing from four selection events.

Ashleigh, a former top soccer player who had to give the sport away due to chronic knee injuries, only began in canoe slalom a few years ago.

Western Sydney Academy of Sport CEO Martin Bullock paid tribute to Ashleigh and her fellow paddlers for making the national teams.

``Ashleigh, and all competitors, are great examples of our region's talented young sports people moving up to the next level,'' Bullock said.

``Eventually we hope to see the athletes competing in future Olympics.''
